Writing Marathon! C'mon. You know you want to!
More than just 26 miles of fast writing, at a Writing Marathon, we stretch our creative wings and FLY across an entire day of craft, prompts, and learning.

Writers of all levels, all genres, join us Saturday, March 18th, 9:00 a.m.- 9:30 p.m., in Altamonte Springs. Engaged by a wealth of writing prompts, you'll wonder where the day has gone--until you see the pages you've produced!

Fully catered, we supply breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, beverages, and after-dinner wine. Accepting sixteen writers; the cost is $110.

Advanced Critique Intensive: Created for writers with projects-in-progress, this full-day event provides opportunities for eight writers to have their work examined and discussed closely by peers and the facilitator in one-on-one sessions, and by the group in an open, end-of-day session.

Join our next Critique Intensive on Sunday, April 30th, 9:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Also fully catered--breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, beverages/wine--the cost is $125. Registering eight writers total, we have room for just three more.

From Friday evening through Sunday afternoon, we'll write amidst the simple luxuries of private rooms, our own comfortable meeting space, delicious, catered meals, and a lovely, natural, Central Florida setting.

Participants will enjoy camaraderie and concentration, organized exercises and scheduled quiet time. Critique and writing consultations will be available, too, but no matter how you use your time, you'll be sure to create good work and good community over the course of your retreat days.

The $425 cost includes two nights single occupancy lodging at Canterbury Retreat Center in Oviedo, Florida; all meals from Friday evening, May 26th, through noon on Sunday, May 28th; unlimited use of 48 natural acres (including nature trails and paddle boats!). We have room for fourteen writers.

All writers, all genres welcome.

Published, Lauded, and Applauded!

While J. R Davis has been busy working on his first novel, his wonderful poem ''Shades of Blue'' has been busy, too. It's been out and about getting itself published in the current quarterly issue (Jan-March) of The Training Wheel, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's training publication. Yay! J.R!

Jeff Davis looked up from his computer long enough to share one of his friend's experiences with publish-on-demand (self-publishing) company Lulu.com. Here's what Jeff''s pen-and-ink pal has to say:

"I looked around for print-on-demand publishers, vanity presses, etc. A lot of bad deals out there! The best is Lulu.com. It's a free, publish-on-demand service. You don't pay anything to have your book published. No up-front costs, no minimum orders. Copies are printed as they are ordered, and all your costs come out of sold copies. But Lulu doesn't do any editing. They print what you give them.

"Once I got the book finalized, I simply uploaded the file. I got a chance to check it over completely later and approve the final result. They did a great job. Everything was exactly like I wanted it; the process was fast and simple."

www.lulu.com and see what you think.

Daphne Slocombe, Program Director of Amherst Writers & Artists (
www.amherstwriters.com) has this good news: literary agent Maya Rock is looking for new authors. Maya works for Writers House, a literary agency founded in 1973 ''with a vision for a new kind of literary agency, one that would combine a passion for managing a writer's career with an integrated understanding of how storytelling works . . . . developing the careers of novelists and non-fiction authors . . .''

Maya is looking for good fiction, especially historical. She is drawn to stories with strong heroines. She likes literary, YA, romance, memoir, self-help, inspirational, narrative nonfiction, and tales focused on people at the edges of society.

For more about Maya, see her site at Publishers Marketplace
http://publishersmarketplace.com or e-mail mrock@WritersHouse.com
