6-Week Workshop: Creative Writing for Everyone

Presented in the Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) method, this class is designed for writers at all levels of experience. By participating in this dynamic and playful process, you will increase both the skills that you bring to creative writing and the pleasure that you take from it!

About this workshop, Central Florida writer Robert Ross said, "Although I've had 20-plus years of experience as a professional writer and editor, I took Jamie's workshop to kick-start my creative writing. I was impressed with how well she works with and draws out the best in writers of all levels."

This summer, join us for a six-week Wednesday evening session, 6:30-9:00 p.m., July 18th-August 22nd. $147.00 Early Bird Special/$177.00 Regular Price.

2) Your Writing Coach

Standing at the start of a writing project? Need a boost mid-stream? Writers at all levels will find Jamie Morris a talented, responsive guide on the writing journey, cheering on your novel or short story, your poem or collection, your memoir, your screenplay, your essay.

Jamie is a genius when it comes to the process of writing. Whether I'm developing a character or just brainstorming, one hour with Jamie spins off a whole month's-worth of creativity!
--Jim Shipley, syndicated newspaper columnist,
currently writing a YA novel

With sharp focus and thoughtful, constructive comments, Jamie gives--most generously--guidance which reflects her depth of experience.
--Peggy Miller, poet, Senior Editor of
The Comstock Review and author of What the Blood Knows

Stuck on my first self-help book, I found the creative energy of my sessions with Jamie awesome. I am unstuck now and have discovered a clear sense of direction. It was great!
--Roberta Fish, writer and Mental Health Counselor

Published, Lauded, and Applauded!
Woodstream Writers' Latest Triumphs

****
1) Book Signings . . .

Recently, Woodstream pal Lara Zielinsky appeared to read and sign her debut novel, Turning Point, at the Colonial Plaza Barnes & Noble. If you missed Laura at B&N, you can grab a copy of Turning Point, a lesbian romance, from Barnes and Noble.

Well done, Lara!!

****
Fresh from her Tuesday morning Woodstream Workshop, Terry Pappy signed her book 14 Days: Loving Life with the Love of my Life, a true love story based on the author's relationship with her husband, Chuck, on Saturday, June 30, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
at UrbanThink! in Orlando. Didn't make it? You can purchase a copy online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble or Borders.

Congrats, Terry.

****
2) Radio Days . . .
Marge Clauser was recently invited to read an excerpt from her memoir on
Nancy Slonim Aronie
's
Sirus satellite radio program, Writing From The Heart.
Marge selected a piece called "I Should Have Known," written in her downtown DeLand
Woodstream Workshop.
It aired twice on Sunday, May 27th.

We love hearing your stories read aloud, Margie.

****
And speaking of the radio, a huge, national-sized congratulations to The Scribbler herself,
Darlyn Finch, for having her poem I {Heart} My Wife
read on Garrison Keillor's Writer's
Almanac on June 21.

Pleased and proud, that's us!

****
3) Poetic Publications and Prizes . . .
In the meantime, Woodstream's original sassy gal, Terri Chastain, had her poem
"Driving You Home" accepted for publication in Revelry 2007, Seminole Community College's
annual literary journal, and was invited to read at Tuesday Voices in May.

We're so happy for you, Terri.

****
Not ONLY did Laura Ross, Woodstream's poetess-with-prowess, win 2nd Place in the
2007 East Lake County Library Association
Poetry Contest for her poem "Ode to Cows and
Children,"
and not ONLY did she also garner honorable mentions for her poems
"The Fisherman" and "Richard the Wanderer," but to ice Laura's cake, her son,
young writer Justin Ross, won 2nd place in the Young Poets division of the same contest
for his terrific poem "Ice Cream."

Our writing caps are off to this winning mom and son writing team!

If all of that good news makes you want to get into the poetry game, yourself,
here's a great opportunity!

The Orlando Poetry Troupe is holding auditions for poets.

The OPT was founded in 2005 by Hinda-jonathon to bring original poetry to the Central Florida arts community. The Troupe performs throughout the year at libraries, museums, art centers, and arts-oriented special events.

Join current members Alice R. Friedman, Estelle Lipp, Hinda-jonathon, Leslie Halpern, Robert Osborne, and Russ Golata as they share their work around town!

4) Notes in the News

Woodstream's Putnam County correspondent, freelance journalist Jeannie Fredrick, is BUZZING with news! Recently, some of Jeannie's friends discovered a number of honey bees in their water meter. Jeannie pitched the story to the Palatka Daily News where it ran on the front page and attracted First Coast 12 News in Jacksonville, who filmed the story.

Jeannie's also completed work for the semi-annual history magazine, Welcome Magazine, continues her bi-weekly "It's Your Turn" column in the Crescent City Courier Journal, AND has begun to author The Crescent City Connection, a monthly newsletter about city business.

Go, Miss Jeannie, Go!!

****

And pausing from poetry for just a moment, Darlyn Finch told us, "I just landed a literary-lifestyle column in the Lifestyle Publications magazine. I’m very excited!"Darlyn went on to say that "the whole magazine is about nice people doing nice things."

WE say, "It couldn't happen to a nicer gal."

.

All entries must be emailed by August 1, 2007.
First prize is $500.00, second is $300.00 and 3rd $200.00.

5) And here's a fun tip of the fork from Tuesday nighter Sunny Hudson, who's been in touch with "Hungry? Orlando Family!"
This restaurant guide seeks contributors to write restaurant reviews. Writers' names will
appear under every entry they contribute,
with their 60-80 word bio listed in the back
of the book. The
first step is to send a list of restaurants you're interested in writing about
--including the neighborhood the restaurant is in or
closest to.

Contact Kaelin Burns, Glove Box Guides (Publishers of Hungry? and Thirsty?) at
(213) 749-2070 or (213) 749-2080 for more information.
